The Steelseries Arctis 3 is a uniquely designed headset which offers high-quality sound for both gaming and music, along with a comfortable fit. Design-wise, the headset is a midsize, over-the-ear model, all-black, with large ear cups and a flexible fabric head and, while it boasts a sleek and understated design, and you could easily use the Arctis 3 on a plane, train or automobile without raising any eyebrows.
To continue, the left ear cup implements a volume-control wheel and a mic-mute button in the back, as well as a retractable, flexible microphone in the front. On the other hand, the right ear cup doesn’t have anything, leaving me to wonder whether it might have been smarter to move the volume wheel there, still, the buttons are not crowded, so you won’t really find any problem at all.
In terms of comfortability, the SteelSeries generally produces the most comfortable headsets in the business, and the Arctis line has been no exception. Just like the 5 and 7 before it, the Arctis 3 is extraordinarily easy to wear, thanks to its flexible headband and large, plush ear cups. You don’t have to grapple with rigid notches, just put it on, and the headband will take care of the rest.
To be more specific, if you’re planning on playing for hours, with the athletic-inspired performance fabric AirWeave ear cushions this process will be easy since they will keep your ears cool and dry.
However, now, let’s talk about performance.
As we all know, a gaming headset isn’t worth much if it fails to deliver in-game, but the Arctis 3 is one of the best sounding headsets in its price range. During our research, I tried playing CS: GO, Pub G, and several other games which require hearing capabilities, I can safely say that the headset performed well across the board, and it didn’t favor any particular genre.
For console and mobile games, the Arctis 3 delivers sound in a predetermined soundscape. Voice work, sound effects, and music all balanced out pretty well, and you will find yourself pretty immersed in the game while you won’t notice anything from the outside to distract you at all. Although, unlike its two more-expensive models, the Arctis 3 doesn’t offer a USB connection. As such, I thought it wouldn’t offer any software options, but it does.
You simply have to register your headset on the SteelSeries website and link it with your account, you can indeed tweak equalization and surround-sound profiles via 3.5mm audio jack. The only problem is that you have to jump through a lot of hoops to do so, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Furthermore, the Engine 3 software is up to its usual high standards. Creating new profiles, linking soundscapes with games and tweaking the audio options are simple intuitive processes that don’t require much time.
As far as you’re concerned about the mic, well, all I have to say is that the mic is a high-quality model, which delivers a rich, clear sound that puts just a little too much emphasis on S and P sounds. You could use it for just about any multiplayer game, but to be honest, professional streamers may still need something with a little more oomph.
When it comes to music performance, the Arctis 3 performs pretty well which delivers rich and realistic sounds, especially if you take the time to tinker with the equalization options first.
Also, this particular model has a competitive advantage with the S1 speaker drivers, engineered to produce ultra-low distortion Audio so you hear every detail. Headphone Frequency Response ranges from 20 to 22,000 Hz, headphone sensitivity-98db, headphone impedance- 32Ohm, microphone frequency response from 100Hz to 10,000Hz, microphone sensitivity minus 48 dB and lastly, microphone impedance 2200 Ohm, so as you can see, these headphones really outmatch many of the similarly priced and even above priced competitors on the market.
Moreover, the SteelSeries Arctis 3 is a good headset for everyone who is not trying to spend a whole fortune for quality gaming headphones, of course not perfect, but definitely worth the price. It can easily be considered as one of the best budget gaming headsets of the year!
To conclude, if you’re looking for something similar, then don’t hesitate to purchase the Arctis 3 because you will never regret your decision.
