If you play games often, then you probably know that one of the most important peripherals of your computer is the monitor. Having a gaming monitor with a high refresh rate, fast response times and a good size can bring you an advantage in competitive gaming. That’s why, i decided to review the 5 best gaming monitors that you can buy right now!
1. Alienware AW3418DW
One of the best gaming monitors out there is the Alienware AW3418DW, combining excellent performance, exemplary design, countless features, but at a reasonable price, truly deserving of the number one spot. This Alienware monitor is 34-inches large and it is curved, it boasts amazing color and the best brightness in the market, the blacks are pretty good as well, the resolution is one of the best and G-Sync works to perfection. The best gaming monitor in the market hands down.
Design-wise there is really no sign that makes the Alienware AW3418DW look like a proper gaming monitor with the RGB lights and aggressive angles, except the iconic Alienware logo on the back of the monitor.
It has thin black bezels on the front and has a dark titanium gunmetal coating on the back to give this monitor the office look that it has adopted from its Dell siblings. The Y-shaped stand has a metallic construction that proves to be very sturdy and stable and is very easy to set up and install, you just snap the monitor on the stand, and it is all done in a matter of seconds. On top of that, you have tons of options for adjustments and the Alienware AW3418DW can be a centerpiece of any desk from gaming rooms to offices, assuming you have the space in your desk to house this behemoth. Furthermore, the Alienware AW3418DW has a wide range of connectivity ports to make this a very versatile monitor.
Gaming performance on this monitor was a definite joy, with amazing colors that popped and amazing detail. This is really a versatile monitor as well, that you can use for designing if you are into that and want a monitor that can adequately run games and portray precise colors and resolution. With near-zero latency and extra features such as the G-Sync, this monitor performs in games and I can see everyone pleased with this one.
When you take into consideration its reasonable price and all the features, performances, and design, the Alienware AW3418DW is a bargain.
2. ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ
Talking about high-end gaming monitors, it would be a shame not to talk about the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ. Despite being pretty expensive, this monitor brings amazing value if you can afford its premium price point, because it will prevail the tests of time and you will find yourself using it even after a decade, it is future-proof. It consists of amazing features such as 4K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate true HDR capability and its main selling point full-array local dimming, and this, in turn, helps the HDR and makes this monitor one of the most capable in the market.
Design-wise the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ is excellent and looks unassuming if you turn off its lights, however, once they are activated it is a light show because it has four different light sections that do the job. Under the base of the stand, there is a red light shining downwards, to which you can add a filter so you get an image on your desk, depending on your preference.
At the top of the stand, there is a red light as well, but this time around it shines the ROG logo and you can also adjust its angle so it can shine on the wall or even the ceiling up top.
Other than that you get a little thicker bezels around 5mm, but it is necessary due to the advanced backlighting, and on the back, you will spot some cuts that are made like a circuit board to enhance gamer vibes, truly excellent. Speaking of the back there you will locate the wide range of connectivity ports, and in addition to all this, you get plenty of adjustability.
The ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ boasts a 4K resolution on its LCD IPS panel that is also made from AU Optronics, and it also can achieve a refresh rate of 144Hz, simply amazing. But the main selling point of this gaming monitor is its full-array local dimming or FALD, that uses separate zones to achieve better and more precise brightness, and achieves true HDR.
SImply amazing monitor if you can afford its premium price.
3. Acer Predator X27
The Acer Predator X27 is the most advanced and the most feature-packed monitor in the market, however, it is very expensive making it a very hard catch. However, if you can afford its premium price point the X27 delivers excellency with its high resolution and high refresh rates. It even supports HDR with one of the widest color gamuts and Nvidia G-Sync to provide you the best gaming experience that you can ever find on the market. But even if you can afford this monitor you will require a high-performance machine to achieve its full potential.
Design-wise the Acer Predator X27 is marvelous, I simply cannot find any caveats, very clean design without clusters or any unnecessary details or accessories. It has an aluminum base that looks amazing that connects to the monitor with a rotating mechanism that also acts as the stand, very well designed. There are VESA 100×100 mounts present on the back so you can choose another mount if you wish too.
There is a little bezel present on the edges of the screen but it is not distracting at all, you will also find light deflecting panels around the edges that are very ergonomically designed and do a perfect job. You also get a wide range of ports you can choose from, and you really can’t expect less from this price point.
Acer adopts an AU Optonics panel for the Predator X27 to achieve 8.3 million pixels on this 27-inch screen, in addition to that it achieves a refresh rate of 144Hz, this is simply amazing. This monitor has G-Sync support to prevent screen tearing and maintain the near-instant 4ms response times, and it supports HDR 10 too. I can only compare this monitor to a high-performance Ferrari.
The desktop experience is simply out of this world if you combine it with an equally powerful system, simply surreal and everything seems very alive, the very best gaming experience. But then again the price is very unrealistic for a monitor, and it requires an equally expensive gaming rig to perform.
4. AOC Agon AG352UCG6
If you are in the market for gaming monitors you probably have seen that there are curved monitors and ultrawide monitors, but there is a special kind that combined both of those. The AOC Agon AG352UCG6 is such monitor, on top of that, it boasts high refresh rates with G-sync compatibility, amazing colors and a great price to wrap up this excellent package.
The design of the AOC Agon AG352UCG6 is simply fantastic, built with an aluminum base built of two parts. The main part latches to the back of the screen and the other part connects tot he three-legged base, I found that this provides amazing support and security to this gigantic 35-inch monitor. In the aesthetics department, the AOC Agon AG352UCG6 is on the gamer side of things, rocking those gamer vibes, and is definitely not an office monitor. It is completely adjustable to your preferences and likes, so you can get the best angle for your comfort, however, there is no portrait mode due to its extra width and curvature.
To start off this amazing monitor is one of the first to provide the 120Hz refresh rate to the 21:9 aspect ratio, which to be honest it is a niche ratio, but the results here are excellent. I found that right out of the box the monitor was calibrated precisely and it did not need much tinkering. I was extremely impressed with the blacks, as the monitor could instantly produce inky deep blacks to provide amazing contrast.
A lot of people argue that you really don’t need very high refresh rates, but once you go above 100Hz, everything below that number looks muddy. Thanks to that and the amazing 3440×1440 resolution provides amazing performance on this curved 35-inch super-wide display.
This VA panel is also capable of 4ms G2G response times and G-Sync, which is very helpful if you have an Nvidia graphics card, and if you have tried this feature you know that it is exceptionally good.
Definitely one of the best gaming monitors on the market, and your best bet for a curved monitor.
5. BenQ ZOWIE XL2540
We are going to start our best gaming monitors list with a great monitor from BenQ. Gaming monitors come at different tastes and prices, and most of the time you get what you pay for. But not in the case of BenQ, which in recent years with its ZOWIE series has produced excellent monitors that provide the best value for their asking price. Enter the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540, which is dedicated for pro gamers with its high refresh rates, one of the best performances for gaming, portability easy setup and value for its price, makes this monitor a bargain.
The design of the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 is very simplistic and minimalistic, as it doesn’t opt for flashier designs as most of the gaming monitors. Unassuming and functional, appealing to the needs of pro gamers. As I mentioned earlier, everything is designed and dedicated for the gamer in this monitor, most importantly the portability and setup. As most gamers tend to take their setups to tournaments and venues to have the most familiar setup and edge against the competition.
If it wasn’t for the S Switch round control everybody would assume that the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 is a simple office monitor. The S Switch allows you to quickly switch and swap between presets, for example, if you play different games, you can instantly choose your preset for that exact game to get the best experience.
The screen is fully adjustable plus it has red markers in each moving point so once you get the best angle, you just memorize the numbers and next time around you can have the exact same setup. There are also two light screens on both sides of the monitor to protect your eyes from the distractions of the ambient.
The performance of the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 is excellent for gaming, I was particularly impressed with the Black eQualizer feature that enhances the visibility of the darker areas on the screen to give you an advantage over the competition.
Combined with the low response times and high refresh rates, with perfect responsiveness and brightness, the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 is a gem of a gaming monitor.
